Faithfully reconstructed by descendants of the early pioneers, Shantytown occupies pride of place amid the many attractions to be found on New Zealand's West Coast. The gold-dusted pages of history are turned back here and one can actually feel the heartbreak and humour of those "boom" days of the turn of the century.
